BEFORE THE LIGHTS GO DOWN
A few playtest details.
First-time installation & unsigned-app warnings
These playtest builds aren’t signed with paid publisher certificates. Windows or macOS may show an “unknown publisher” or “unidentified developer” warning.
Windows
Run Cinema-Slaughter-Playtest-Windows-x64-Setup.exe. If SmartScreen says it protected your PC, choose More info → Run anyway only for the file downloaded here. If your computer doesn’t offer that option, send the warning to the person who invited you.
The installer may offer Microsoft WebView2 if it’s missing. Once installed, launch Cinema Slaughter Playtest from the Start menu.
Mac · Apple Silicon only
Open the .dmg and drag Cinema Slaughter Playtest onto Applications. Open it from Applications.
If macOS blocks it as an unidentified developer, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the blocked-app notice, and choose Open Anyway. Then confirm Open. This approves just this app. Apple’s instructions ↗
This download needs an M1 or newer Mac. There is no Intel Mac build in this playtest.
Linux · 64-bit
On Ubuntu 22.04+ or a compatible Debian-based system, open the .deb with your software installer. It installs the game launcher and declares the required WebKitGTK 4.1 dependencies.
For the portable archive, extract the whole folder and run Play.sh. Your system needs WebKitGTK 4.1 and Steam installed. Other Linux distributions may require manual dependency setup.
If a warning mentions malware or damage rather than an unverified publisher, stop and send us the exact message. You don’t need to disable system-wide protections.
Why does Steam call it “Spacewar”?
These friend tests use Steam’s development App ID 480. Steam can display Spacewar while Cinema Slaughter is running. Open the game from its installed launcher, and make sure everyone uses this same playtest release.
Do phone players need to install or buy anything?
No. The host runs the desktop game. Phone players scan the lobby QR or visit play.bubbleskull.net and enter the four-digit code.
Play at home with up to eight people. A party travelling into another online game can bring up to four people, including phone guests. Each match holds eight people total.
Temporary phone hosting for this build ends November 14, 2026 at 9:53 PM US Eastern. Ask for a newer build after that.
What should we test or report?
Try a full match, phone joining, Steam invitations, party travel, and reconnecting. If the host disconnects, they have two minutes to reopen the same app on the same computer and choose Resume Game.
Send the person who invited you your platform, what happened, and a screenshot if possible. These builds have automated checks; your real-device multiplayer sessions are what this playtest is for.
